Montrose Medal Course is simply one of the finest links courses on Scotland's east coast and as such, was chosen by the R&A to be used as a Local Final Qualifying Course for The Open Championship (when it was held at Carnoustie) both in 1999 and again in 2007.
It is also a course much admired by American Ben Crenshaw. "A magnificent stretch of marvellously natural ground which depicts how the game was born," said the American only a few years ago.
The challenge of the Medal course often comes down to the weather. If the sea breeze is more than a breeze then the challenge is much tougher.
Good shot making is required on every hole and the straighter you are, the better chance you have of a good score.
